escapril day 26: girlhood, boyhood

a soft silky mesh with glittery golden stars,
pale pink, it draped to my touch,
it cut crisply with the scissors and suddenly
I was a girl again,
twirling in my princess skirt –
my own soft pale pink mesh with glittery golden stars
and with left over fabric I sewed a matching dress
for my stuffed penguin, it quickly became
my favourite dress I’d ever made,
and the only thing that mattered then
was how pretty she looked
and how pretty I felt,
and it’s funny how something as simple as a fabric
can be such a strong reminder of how it feels
to not have a care in the world.
