escapril day 5: the view from up here
Echoed thoughts in a deep dream, speak
Of splendour in a mirrored world mind –
At the close of day, and the dawn of sleep.
In an invisible explosion of inside out, I seek
Secrets of the soul, kept close behind
Echoed thoughts in a deep dream. Speak
To me through these blurred edges, deep
In the impossible anywhere I find
At the close of day, and the dawn of sleep.
In a maze of clouded vision, weightless hands keep
Me transcended, unseen by those blind
To echoed thoughts in a deep dream. (speak)
A memoir of waking moments rest on my cheek,
Only to be extracted and abstracted, to intertwine
At the close of day, and the dawn of sleep.
Deadly to find solace in a world we cannot keep –
The view from here is different, divine –
Echoed thoughts in a deep dream, speak
At the close of day, and the dawn of sleep.
Today I wrote my first ever villanelle! I have loved reading some other people’s villanelles during escapril and decided to try writing my own. I have made it a goal of mine to try out more different poetic forms, to challenge myself even more. Here are a couple of villanelles than inspired me to create my own!
